Sand-play therapy sessions are also offered, especially beneficial for non-verbal clients and children, or to tap into one's imagination and creativity. Sessions involve a sand tray and small figurines which clients use to represent their inner emotions, concerns and experiences by creating a miniature play world in the tray. It is a world created by symbolism and metaphor. After sandplay is complete, the client and therapist will together discuss the choice of figures and their arrangement or 'play' and the symbolic meanings. Clients can then choose to make changes to their sand world. This often relates to changes they would like to make in their real world. Clients may also choose not to change anything. Sandplay can honour an individual's inner world and provide a place for its expression within a safe, protected space, witnessed by the therapist.
